It's free and open to the public (10am-6pm, M,T,Th,F) and contains nearly every key book on film, millions of clippings and photos, many thousands of periodicals, and very helpful librarians. Call 310-247-3000 for more info. There are other libraries and archives for specific research functions, but for general introduction, nothing touches the Academy.
