Job Announcement - Two Positions To contract with the Library of Congress to complete a grant-funded two year project to provide increased access to dance collections. Products of the project (MARC records and finding aids) will be added to national bibliographic utilities and Internet gophers. 1) Full Time Expert Consultant, Dance-Moving Image Cataloger, Contract Position, one year renewable contract, salary $30,000 NO BENEFITS. To arrange and describe moving image collections of dance-related materials; survey major television collection to determine dance content; create item-level MARC records that meet national cataloging standards; participate in creation and implementation of project cataloging guidelines; evaluate collections for preservation priority (from the subject specialist perspective). Qualifications: Background of dance history and-or ethnology, especially in relation to visual documentation; knowledge of MARC format and experience in cataloging moving image materials; familiarity and experience working with AMIM practices; knowledge of and-or experience in archival practice for multi-format special collections; ability to use personal computer (esp. WP, Procite, and Minaret); ability to work independently as a contractor without supervision or extensive training, including writing of periodic progress reports; knowledge of preservation tools. 2) Half-time Expert Consultant, Moving Image-Dance Processor, contract position, one-year renewable contract, salary range $11,000, NO BENEFITS. To carry out physical processing of moving image and audio collections of dance-related materials, including labeling, rehousing, rewinding and evaluation of physical condition; create preliminary inventories of collections; view materials for dance content. Qualifications: Knowledge of dance and film history, especially related to the musical film and television history; knowledge and experience in in the physical processing of film and video; ability to use personal computer (esp. WP, Procite, Minaret); ability to work independently as a contractor without supervision or extensive training, including the ability to write periodic progress reports.
