How about Madeline Ali's *Black to the Promised Land*? A documentary about a Bed-Stuy teacher who takes a group of Bed-Stuy (ie inner-city, African-American, NYC) high school students to live and work on a kibbutz? It was screened at the SF Film Festival in 1992, as I recall and it doesn't shy away from showing us what these kids are *really* thinking. Interesting film.
