Probably the most famous tunnel shot in the cinema is the ending of NORTH BY NORTHWEST, right after Cary Grant pulls Eva Marie Saint up onto his bunk. Hitchcock used to joke that this was the one Freudian symbol in his films. (It's a pretty quick shot. Might not serve your purpose.) On a completely different note, much of that Tim Robbins film about the psycho Vietnam vet (man! I'm drawing a blank on the title!) is set in a subway tunnel. And several mining disaster films (e.g., KAMERADSCHAFT) involve scenes of tunneling--but that's probably the wrong kind of tunneling... And then there's the tunnels in THE GREAT ESCAPE and GRAND ILLUSION... Don't mind me. I'll just free-associate for a while... ---------- Diversity of opinion within the framework of loyalty to our free society is not only basic to a university but to the entire nation. --James Bryant Conant ---------- | Jeremy G.
