Bert, one option that comes to mind - although it may not be what you have in mind - is to take a look at some of the films that the communists (shall we say: socialist regimes?) themselves saw as anti-communist propoganda. I remember that the Goethe House in NYC showed a series of such films about a year ago, including such menacing titles as Hermann Zschoche's *Karla* (from the mid-60's) and Gerhard Klein & Wolfgang Kohlhaase's *Berlin Around the Corner* (also from the mid-60's) and Kurt Maetzig's *I am the Rabbit* (again, 1966? 1965?). Those are the only titles I can recall, but I'm sure I can dig up the rest if you're interested. And the series may well be available through the local (?) Goethe House. good luck with the project. david levin columbia university e-mail: [log in to unmask]
