Re: script set in the future. Yes, the most obvious thing to do would be
to have your character listen to some kind of broadcast which gives away
the date.  This probably could be done more subtly than the old Star Trek
"Stardate" type of entry.
 
Consider also using uniform markings (as opposed to "futuristic" uniforms
per se).  You could somehow indicate that the character is a resistance
fighter to a futuristic government.  Also along the same lines how about
"field signs" (Keep out type) or billboards since the action will be
taking place outside.
 
A personal fantasy of mine would be to see a northern Europe controlled by
the US and resisted by "locals."  Probably a little obvious (Daphne Du
Maurier wrote a novel about such an event in England in the early 1970s)
and a British miniseries (A Very British Coup) recently traversed similar
ground.
