The recent spate of films about poor and confused shrinks--who usually end
up sleeping with their patients--suggests a sort of sub-genre of the
"scientist film". From *The Snake Pit* to *Man Facing Southeast*, *Final
Analysis*, and *Silence of the Lambs*, the psychiatrist who is a bit touched
by his work is often representative of the power of science itself, such
films often suggesting that irrationality and passion are instead a key.
