* About Wilmington, North Carolina: It started when when Dino DeLaurentis * looked for a very cheap place to make films. (North Carolina is a right * to work state where exploitation of cheap labor is legal.) Your bias is showing Cal! Without engendering a non-topic discussion, some would consider compulsory union membership as a condition to work equally exploitative, especially given the uncertainty about just where one's union dues actually go. Virginia also has right to work laws, which makes it another place Holloywood seems to be turning to. There have been a number of films produced in Richmond, Alexandria, and lots of places on the Eastern Shore very recently--Kareem Abdul Jabbar's first directorial film(?!) being the latest. Also, lots of prestigious actors (Redford, Spacek, et al) live in the horse country of the northwest portion of the state--it's easy to have a film appeal to you if you can go home at night. * tried to produce films 'round and about the state. Personally, I wouldn't * plan to make a career in filmmaking in North Carolina unless I had a steady * day job or spouse who had one. Of course, this warning is even more applicable for NY and Hollywood. -- Mark Bunster |Exchange conversation if you dare-- Survey Research Lab--VCU |Share an empty thought or a laugh.
