Sorry you find Seinfeld and Mad About You neurotic, Mark. I adore Mad About You--witty writing, great acting. Paul Reiser finally escaped from My Two Dads and found a good showcase for his comedy style. He and Helen Hunt are the Roband Laura Petriee of the 90s in some ways: young, upscale couple whose main narrative problems are learning how to live together as a couple and integrating their distinctly different cultural tastes. Maybe a little Bridget Loves Bernie thrown in there, too. He's Jewish and urban, she's suburban and WASPish. Fun bantering. Other favorite sitcoms (though this is becoming a misnomer) are Roseanne (whose character of Darlene is one of the most interesting teenage characters ever to grace the TV screen) and Murphy Brown (though it's losing its punch). I think I relish Northern Exposure the most; I still find it refreshingly surreal and culturally broadening, and I really love the texture of the characters. I gave up on L.A. Law this year, too, but never watched Picket Fences that so many of you are raving about. It sounds interesting. Come to think of it, it's ironic how little TV I watch considering I teach it. Hmmm.... Pam
