* * Yesterday we set an all-time record for messages on SCREEN-L. So many * were posted that we exceeded our daily limit of 50 and I had to unlock * the list manually before any more were sent. * * This brings up a question I've been considering for some time: * * Should SCREEN-L be moderated? It all depends on if the List Moderator (Jeremy?) wants to take the time to do it and will it be worth it. Sometimes there are threads that gets lots of responses and there will be lots of messages. If we limit the amount of time a thread will last or limit the number of times someone can post about a thread, this may cut down on the amount of messages per day. Or, if the Moderator cuts out all the Signoff/Signon messages that (sometimes) get sent to the list by mistake(?), then this MAY cut down on the amount of messages per day, but probably not too much or not enough to be worth doing when you have to go though 40 to 50 messages a day. Perhaps the Moderator can send a message to the list saying that a current thread that has been on the list for a certain amount of time should stop and another thread should begin, or if another more interesting thread comes along, that the previous thread should stop. And what IF two popular threads are running concurrently? This would certainly create a large amount of posts per day! This could be what the list just went through recently, so SOME degree of moderation MAY be needed. Soooo, depending on the conditions, I would vote that the list be moderated, but only under certain established conditions previously discussed. Bill Johnson [log in to unmask]
