I think that what was most disgusting about the tribute to women piece at the oscars, and what Ben was arguing, is that Hollywood was just making a bad attempt at being PC. It is almost insulting that Hollywood, the most racist and sexist of practically all visual mediums, would present such a piece. It totally conflicts with their dominant ideologies. I do admit that the tribute did indeed show women in positive roles but, as Ben pointed out, women were editors only because in the early days editing was not so much a means of artistic expression as it was a menial task. We cannot dislocate the meaning of the images from their historical contexts. Jason Longo Ithaca College.
