Jeremy-- The February 1993 issue of Windows magazine has an article called "Everything You Were Afraid to Ask about CD-ROM" (p. 216). It o discusses storage, technology, compatibility, upgradability, etc. It's a really helpful article. The accompanying buyers guide compares features of over 25 brands, which is a real help when you head to the computer store and work with salespeople who must surely be visiting from an another planet because we don't seem to be speaking the same language. The article doesn't speak exclusively to Windows users, so if you don't have Windows, it's still worth reading. Elsewhere in the issue the Win 100 award for best CD-ROM hardward was given to the NEC Intersect CDR-74 ("NEC's Multispin technology offers data-transfer rates of 300 KB per second. $725; bundled with multimedia gallery, $999.") Of course, the published price doesn't necessarily represent reality. I hope this helps. I too am yearning to buy, but I just can't seem to justify it budgetwise right now. Somehow I imagine I would do a great deal of playing with it too, so maybe I can't afford it timewise either. But what fun! Good Luck,el Jane Haspel
