I'm teaching television criticism once again this spring. To separate
myself from the social science approach, I usually use narrative structure
and similar literary borrowings to get them actively viewing rather than
talking about television. This year I plan to treat it as a visual art,
with heavy borrowings from John  Berger. Question: do you know of any
other folks in our academic circles doing "television as electronic
painting" of some such?
