I anyone knows of literature dealing with direct >animation on film, I would appreciate hearing about it. >Thanks. >Bert Deivert Univ. of Karlstad, Sweden >[log in to unmask] The National Film Board produced a film called Pen Point Percussion in 1951 (NFB #106B 0151 035) that has Norman McLaren describing how he makes synthetic sound by drawing directly on the film. Its very good. As to doing the images, a local grade 3 (ages 7-8) teacher of my acquaintance does a film production unit with her class each year that produces a film using this method. She has her class draw a film using 16mm clear leader and coloured markers. Each student gets one metre of leader to work on and a 30cm strip of paper marked with a guide to show where the frame lines are. They produce some interesting work. Its quite easy but very time consuming. I'll check my library at home and see if Norman wrote anything on the process.
