I have no clear fix on Debbie Allen as a director from other work. In STOMPIN' AT THE SAVOY the dance sequences had more vigor and point than the dialog sequences. But even the dance sequences seemed to a veteran of World War Two to be cliched versions of what jitterbug dancing must have been like. Along around here we get into the LIBERTY VALANCE problem: do we print the legend when it overreaches the truth?
