Dan Herbert --- *University of Michigan* *Department of Film, Television, and Media* *Tenure-Track Assistant Professor* The Department of Film, Television, and Media (FTVM, formerly known as the Department of Screen Arts & Cultures), invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in comparative approaches to global media studies. The university-year appointment will begin September 1, 2019. We are interested in a humanities scholar who focuses on global media flows with an emphasis on television, new media platforms, forms of streaming distribution, and modes of production and consumption. Possible research/teaching interests also include history and theory of global television/media exchanges; transnational media industries and cultures; streaming and the creation of alternative media practices; the role of media in formulations of space, place, and geography; transnational media consumption and the reformulation of social, political, and cultural identities; fandom; and non-Western industries and media products. Scholars may approach these issues in any period in the history of television/media. A Ph.D. by May 1, 2019 in media studies, or a closely related field, is required. The teaching load will be four courses per academic year (courses of all levels). The candidate should demonstrate a strong promise of scholarly excellence, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and the ability to develop a global television/media curriculum across the creative production/conceptual studies divide.
