One of the few academic journals on gender and sexuality based in the MENA
region, *Kohl: a Journal for Body and Gender Research*
<http://gsrc-mena.org/kohl/> saw the light in December 2014. We are pleased
to invite submissions for *Kohl*’s first issue, slated for publication in
May 2015. Young activists, independent researchers, graduate students and
fresh graduates are particularly encouraged to apply. We also welcome
submissions from seminal contributors in the field.
The Middle East, South West Asia and North Africa region has witnessed
historical interpolations of Western and colonial influences, and the
fields of gender and sexuality were not exempt from these dynamics of
power. At the same time, purporting to a discourse of authenticity and
pushing for a return to a pre-colonial status, remain unfavorable to the
contemporary discourses of gender and sexuality. The recent rise of
feminist and sexuality movements expresses the need to redefine these
concepts in light of the current political and cultural contexts of the MENA.
We are interested in papers that historicize these movements and that
contextualize their challenges.

L’une des rares revues académiques sur le genre et la sexualité basées dans
la région MENA, *Kohl*: *la Revue de Recherche sur le Corps et le Genre*
<http://gsrc-mena.org/kohl/> a vu le jour en Décembre 2014. Nous sommes
heureux de vous inviter à envoyer vos articles pour le premier numéro de
*Kohl*, dont la publication est prévue pour mai 2015. Nous encourageons
particulièrement les jeunes activistes, chercheurs indépendants, étudiants
diplômés, ainsi que les nouveaux diplômés à postuler. Nous accueillons
volontiers tout article venant de la part de contributeurs influents dans
le domaine
La région du Moyen-Orient, du Sud-Ouest d’Asie et de l’Afrique du Nord a
connu des insertions historiques d'influences occidentales et coloniales,
et les domaines du genre et de la sexualité n’ont pas fait exception à ces
dynamiques de pouvoir. En même temps, aspirer à un discours d'authenticité
et opter pour un retour à un état précolonial ne joue pas en faveur des
discours contemporains autour du genre et de la sexualité. Cette genèse
récente des mouvements féministes et de la sexualité exprime la nécessité
de redéfinir ces concepts vis-à-vis des contextes politiques et culturels
actuels de la région MENA. Nous nous intéressons aux articles qui
historicisent ces mouvements et les mettent ainsi en contexte pour en
définir les défis.

لتكون واحدة من بين عدد قليل من المجلات الأكاديمية حول الجندر والجنسانية في
منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. تتشرف كحل باطلاق الدعوة لتقديم المقالات
لعددها الأول والتي سيتم اصداره في شهر أيار/مايو 2015. ونشجع بشكل خاص
تقديمات الناشطين والناشطات الشباب والباحثين/ات المستقلين/ات وطلاب وطالبات
الدراسات العليا والخريجين/ات الجدد. كما نُرحب بجميع المقالات من قبل
مُساهمين ذو صلة في هذا المجال.
لقد شهدت منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا الكثير من تأثيرات الاستعمار
الغربي، ولم تكن مواضيع الجندر (النوع الاجتماعي) والجنسانية مستثناة من
ديناميكية السلطة. في الوقت نفسه، يبقى الزعم بخطاب الأصالة والعودة إلى وضع
ما قبل الاستعمار غير مؤاتي للخطابات المعاصرة عن الجندر والجنسانية. تعبّر
نهضة حراكات النسوية وحراكات الجنسانية عن الحاجة لإعادة تعريف هذه المفاهيم
في ضوء السياقات السياسية والثقافية الحالية للمنطقة. ونحن مهتمون في المقالات
التي تتناول تاريخ هذه الحراكات والتي تضع التحديات التي تواجهها ضمن اطارها
سياسي وجغرافي.
