The Department of Communication and Media Studies (CMS) in the College of Arts and Sciences at Sacred Heart University invites applications for a tenure-track position in media literacy at the level of assistant professor to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to help build our new graduate program in Media Literacy and Digital Culture.  A Ph.D. in communication, media studies or related field is preferred; ABD considered. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in the theory and professional practice of media literacy, demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and have a broad understanding of the social history of communication and media ethics. This position requires a commitment to program development and the successful candidate will be prepared to assist in the growth of the new graduate program in Media Literacy and Digital Culture. CMS is a growing department with over 250 undergraduate and graduate students that combines the study of communication history and theory with techniques of media production, and anticipates the launch of its fourth master's program in fall 2015. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in media literacy, critical cultural studies, and media studies.
