The aim of this issue is to open up a largely unexplored field of research, proposing not only case studies of specific film professions (designer, screenwriter, sound engineer, composer, etc.) but also more wide-ranging articles about studio hiring practices, training of actors, trade unions, etc. This issue is accompanied by a DVD containing 7 rare films that show this important off-screen dimension of the film industry.
