(Tuscaloosa)  The Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa County will present the screening of the film They Came to Play on February 19, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. The presentation of this award-winning documentary will be the Alabama premiere. 


They Came to Play contains pre- and post-footage of the International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs hosted by the Van Cliburn Competition from the summer of 2007.  The prestigious event reunited 75 of the world’s best amateur pianists.  Drew Mays, Birmingham ophthalmologist and former student of University of Alabama piano professor Amanda Penick, was the winner.  In attendance at the screening will be Dr. Mays and the director of the film, Alex Rotaru.
