Catherine Breillat: Women, Sex, Violence, Cinema Saturday 12 April, IGRS, London This is the first UK conference to focus exclusively on the work of French director, Catherine Breillat, whose work spans the last 30 years and who provokes both media debate and growing academic interest. With speakers from the UK, US and Canada, this conference covers the range of Breillat’s work, examining it in relation to issues such as freedom, sex and desire, romance, feminism, rape, eating disorders, masculinity, and offering readings influenced by queer theory, ethics, Hollywood cinema, psychoanalysis, amongst others.
