She's not quite the protagonist, and the film is more Sci-Fi/Action than fantasy, but The Lost World: Jurassic Park features a young black female character (played by Vanessa Lee Chester) in a pivotal role (let's just say her gymnastics skills are involved in fighting off a Raptor attack). While not a very good movie (see above re: gymnast vs. several hundred punds of dino), I just thought this might fit into your inquiry. Also, does anyone know of any youth films with an all-black cast? Or at least a black child/ren protagonist/s? The Wiz and Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella are the only two that I can come up with. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
