Museum of the Moving Image Symposium Open Collections: Exploring Online Cultural Resources June 18, 9:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Presented with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the New York State Council on the Arts. In fewer than fifteen years, the Internet has become an indispensable part of life, work, and learning, forever changing the way information is accessed. Museum of the Moving Image is one of many institutions in the process of making their collections accessible on the Internet in order to better serve the needs of scholars, students, and the general public. Over 1,000 items from the Museum's collection are now accessible online as part of a ten-year digitization and access initiative.. On June 18, the Museum will present a daylong symposium devoted to how online cultural resources, especially those composed of primary-source materials, are planned, developed, and accessed. The symposium brings museum and library professionals together with information-technology experts and scholars. Panelists and moderators include professionals from leading cultural and academic institutions, including Theresa M.
