---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Mark Larson <[log in to unmask]> Date: Nov 2, 2006 1:10 PM Subject: Job Posting to listserv To: [log in to unmask] *LEADERSHIP POSITION AVAILABLE**DIRECTOR, SCHOOL OF THEATRE, TELEVISION, AND FILM SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY *The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts at SDSU seeks a Director for its School of Theatre, Television, and Film, effective July 1, 2007. *QUALIFICATIONS *• The successful candidate is expected to hold an MFA or PhD in a field of television, film, and/or theatre arts, or hold a degree in arts management related to these fields. • The candidate must have a record of excellence in teaching and research / creativity, or equivalent professional experience in institutions with national scope, that justifies appointment as a full professor in the School. • Demonstrated effectiveness in administration and professional management. • Demonstrated success as a supervisor of personnel. • Experience and success in fund-raising and community outreach and relations. • Ability to manage a comprehensive facility that includes professional theatres, television studios, production facilities, equipment checkout, editing bays, classrooms, and studio spaces. • Keen interest in synthesizing and understanding the distinct needs of different disciplines and programs within the School. *ABOUT US *The School of Theatre, Television, and Film was established to create a community of artists in related fields and to build a cross-disciplinary curriculum for students. The primary goal of TTF is to provide superior undergraduate and graduate educations for a diverse body of students seeking careers in all areas of live theatre and the moving image arts. The Theatre Program provides: critical studies in theatre history and dramatic literature; technical skills relevant to professional theatre design, production, and performance; performance and design techniques for film and television; special programs in theatre for youth and community education; and opportunities to apply skills and artistry in a full season of plays and musicals produced in fully equipped theaters. The Television, Film, and Digital Media major prepares students for a range of careers in the entertainment and information industries, including independent film, documentary, public affairs, and short film. The program's professional focus includes technical and artistic training in film and television production and design, digital technologies, screenwriting and critical studies, animation, cinematography on state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Internships are available in all branches of the School. The Theatre program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree. On the graduate level, the Theatre program offers the Master of Arts degree as well as the Master of Fine Arts degrees in Musical Theatre and Design and Technical Theatre. The Television and Film program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Television, Film, and Digital Media Production. On the graduate level, a Master of Arts degree in TFM is currently offered and an MFA is anticipated in the near future. The School seeks to strengthen the relationship between the disciplines of the moving image arts and live theatre through faculty whose specialties allow them to move easily between both areas of the School and a curriculum that is steadily increasing the number of interdisciplinary courses. * DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *The Director is the chief administrator of the School and works with faculty, students and support staff in programs offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts and represents the School to the College, University, and State. The Director supervises the strong support personnel responsible for departmental budgets and for facilities management; coordinates class schedules and curriculum; builds and sustains relationships with alumni and philanthropic and corporate communities for fundraising; develops long-term strategic plans. The Director will be the person primarily responsible for expressing a vision for the future of the School. *DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS *We invite candidates with: • background in creative work that may include hands-on experience in film and/or theatre and/or new media production that indicate significant achievement. • a wide cultural frame of reference in the arts and humanities, encompassing media arts and theatre as well as related fields of art, music, and literature. • successful experience in international / intercultural outreach. • extensive experience teaching at the university level. • experience in working with diverse student populations. • interest in the academic discourses of the media arts and / or theatre experienced scholars are welcome to apply. • membership and activity in appropriate professional organizations. • experience working with budgets. • demonstrable talent in consensus building, strategic planning, visioning, and innovation.
