*** apologies for cross-postings *** COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT -- CHAIR SEARCH UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AT AMHERST The Department of Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for the position of Department Chair, with term of appointment to commence in Fall 2007. The appointment will be at the rank of full Professor, with tenure, and applicants should have scholarly credentials appropriate to that rank at a major research institution. The search is open with respect to subfield specialization and methodological orientation. We seek to hire a distinguished scholar with an outstanding record of research and publication who will be appointed to the permanent faculty and serve as Chair for an initial term of three years. The Chair is responsible for administering fiscal, personnel, and curricular matters, advocating departmental interests, and encouraging scholarly productivity. Applicants should have a record of active and continuing research, proven excellence in teaching and advising graduate and undergraduate students, the ability to work effectively with faculty and university administrators, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated leadership or administrative experience. We are a theoretically and methodologically diverse department that offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Communication and a B.A. degree in Journalism. The successful candidate will be a scholar who values creativity, rigorous inquiry, collegiality, and diversity, and who will contribute to the department's research profile beyond his or her term as Chair.
