Panel: Oops, They Did It Again: Investigating the Hollywood Remake Chair: Nina K. Martin, Emory University SCMS Conference, Vancouver 2006 This panel will investigate the Hollywood remake in a few of its many forms, whether looking at creative adaptation (Bridget Jones's Diary as remake of Pride and Prejudice), television transformation (the recent Bewitched), films that come back to haunt us (such as the remake of The Haunting, or the Quiet American), or national genre cinema (Japanese horror cinema remakes). Hollywood remakes raise important questions about historical and cultural contexts, industrial/marketing practices, fan cultures, and national identities. Papers dealing with gender and sexuality are especially encouraged. Please send a 200-300 word abstract and contact information by August 14, 2005 to Nina K. Martin at [log in to unmask] _________________ Dr. Nina K.
