Dear Film Scholars,
The full program (rough draft) for the "War in Film, Television,
and History" is now on the Film  & History web site.  As many  know, the
conference is scheduled for 11-14 November in the Dolce Conference  Center near
the D/FW airport between Dallas and Ft. Worth.  (It is possible to seek out
topics,  eras, and persons with a Control-F function on your computer.)  We have
over 400 registered participants  as of 2 November.
Thursday night speaker is Larry Suid, author of GUTS AND GLORY: THE  MAKING
OF THE AMERICAN MILITARY IMAGE IN FILM.
Friday afternoon speaker is Frank Thompson, advisor to the recent version  of
THE ALAMO.  Thompson is an expert  on all of the Alamo productions from the
silent era to the present.
Friday night speaker is Jeanine Basinger, author of THE WORLD WAR II  COMBAT
FILM.  She will speak about  genre characteristics and
their changes over time.
Saturday luncheon speaker is Adrian Cronauer, subject of GOOD MORNING,
VIETNAM, the Robin Williams film by director Barry Levinson.
Saturday evening there will be a town hall meeting to discuss Michael  Moore
and his controversial films, to include FAHRENHEIT 9/11.  Gary Edgerton is the
Chair for this  megasession.
