Electronic Media and Broadcasting Appalachian State University Department of Communication is seeking an outstanding Lecturer or Assistant/Associate Professor in electronic media beginning August 2004. An earned doctorate with an emphasis in Electronic Media is preferred and is required for a tenure-track position. For a Lecturer position, an M.A. or M.S., or exceptional professional experience is required. After the initial one-year appointment as Lecturer, a multi-year appointment is possible. The successful applicant will teach courses in audio/radio production, news, and announcing. Other possible teaching areas could include television production, television news reporting, broadcast programming, and writing courses in broadcast news and electronic media. The position will also include advising undergraduates, maintaining a program of scholarly or creative activity, and participating in departmental, university, professional, and public service activities. Knowledge of appropriate audio editing software, such as Cool Edit, is required. The Department of Communication is the second largest department at Appalachian State University, with approximately 970 majors in electronic media and broadcasting, advertising, journalism, organizational and public communication, and public relations.
