SCMS 2004 French cinema panel Call for proposals for a panel at the 2004 Society for Cinema and Media Studies annual conference, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, March 4-7, 2004. AT THE VANGUARD OF FRENCH FILM This panel will explore and analyze recent French and Francophone cinema. Its focus will be on those films/directors/stylistic or representational tendencies/reception developments that are at the forefront of contemporary French film, particularly those figures or issues not yet addressed within Film Studies. Possible areas include but are not limited to: new feminist cinema, iconoclastic filmmakers, narratives of sex and sexuality, arthouse/entertainment cross-overs, politics and the mainstream, genre hybridity, shifts in film style (especially digital filmmaking), changes to the French critical landscape, etc. Please send a 300-400 word abstract and brief biography to Tim Palmer, Assistant Professor of Film Studies, Department of Film, University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
