CALL FOR ARTICLES: Miklos Jancso special issue ************************************************* KINOEYE | The fortnightly journal of film in the new Europe http://www.kinoeye.org ISSN 1475-2441 ************************************************* Miklos Jancso has long been recognised as a major European auteur, especially praised for carefully choreographed camerawork and the remarkable performances he draws out of his actors. Despite this widespread acknowledgement, his films are rarely screened and, even on the festival circuit and in art house cinemas, they have not been well represented. A more positive reception has been prevented in part by the deep cultural and historical references that Jancso employs and a dense narrative style that eschews "main" characters with whom the audience can identify in favour of symbolism and abstraction. *Kinoeye*'s special issue on Jancso seeks to explore his whole career and unravel the many thematic strands that make up this visionary director's work. Submissions are especially sought in the form of analyses of individual Jancso films or groupings of films (e.g., the *Lord's Lantern...* trilogy). However, we are also more than willing to consider submissions on: -- interviews with Jancso collaborators -- the historical background to Jancso's films -- motifs in Jancso's works -- Jancso's use of actors -- the political subtexts of Jancso's films -- history of reception of Jancso's films Deadline: 30 January 2003 Authors are advised to consult with *Kinoeye* before submission.
