See Susan Faludi's extensive treatment of the film from a feminist
perspective in "Backlash".  I'm pretty sure her analysis of it in the book
is revised from an earlier article she published in Mother Jones.  And
Time magazine did an entire cover story on it at the end of 1987, which I
believe included some feminist perspectives in detail.  I'd also imagine
(but can't be sure) that Cineaste covered it, likely from a left-leaning
