Regarding portrayals of cultural transitions in film: What about war movies, such as "Born on the Fourth of July" where the transition is not only one that involves a return from an international/foreign cultural context but also from the military culture of soldiers and of war itself. It might also be interesting to consider prison films, especially those that portray a convict's release back into the "free" world and their tentative/apprehensive disposition as they attempt to make the transition back into society. The final scenes of "The Shawshank Redemption" featuring Morgan Freeman come to mind, but there are many others.
