Jean-Pierre, I'm not sure if this will be precisely what you're after, but try Zhang Yuan's _East Palace, West Palace_ (1996, PRC) for scenes of the detention of a gay man cruising in Beijing, and the intriguingly ambivalent relationship that develops between the apprehended man and the interrogating police officer over a night's interrogation. I'm not sure whether the officially endorsed homophobia of the police officer exactly qualifies as implying "standards altogether different from what we are accustomed to," but there you are.
