Jean-Pierre,

I'm not sure if this will be precisely what you're after, but try Zhang
Yuan's _East Palace, West Palace_ (1996, PRC) for scenes of the detention of
a gay man cruising in Beijing, and the intriguingly ambivalent relationship
that develops between the apprehended man and the interrogating police
officer over a night's interrogation.
I'm not sure whether the officially endorsed homophobia of the police
officer exactly qualifies as implying "standards altogether different from
what we are accustomed to," but there you are.

Hope this helps,
Fran
