I'm confronting a dilemma that I'm now learning is experienced by quite a few people doing TV history research: Several months ago when I called NBC in NYC about the existence of a company archive or research center, I was told by an all-too-curt desk jockey that "NBC is a corporation and is not in the business of making our internal papers available to the public." I was very clear that I was seeking material from about 50 years ago, not this season's programming strategy. I am wondering if anyone on the list has a lead on sources of television industry papers or archives. I'm looking in particular for internal memos or division reports from ABC, CBS, and NBC on scheduling and program selection decisions from the period 1948-1955. I'd also be highly interested in locating the personal papers of early influential network players, including Sylvester "Pat" Weaver of NBC. These kinds of items are referenced from time to time, so to seems they might be compiled somewhere. It might be useful to post any leads to the list for the benefit of all, or I can be contacted offlist. thanks for any insights.
