FRENCH IMMERSION WORKSHOP
  August 12-18, UM Flathead Lake Biological Station, Polson, Montana

  At UM's Flathead Lake Biological Station situated on the shore of beautiful Flathead Lake, scholars and francophiles mix a week of intense French language practice with the screening of French cinema and the pleasure of cuisine and culture. Participants survey and analyze the functions, roles and significance of women in contemporary French cinema (1960-2000) as actresses, directors and producers. Students also discuss current cultural problems in France. Presenting the workshop are: Dr. Michel Valentin, workshop coordinator, native French speaker and Associate Professor of French textuality in the UM Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures; Hervé Dalmais, specialist and lecturer of French cinema, Paris, France; and Professeur Gilberte Delaille of the Lycée Viticole de Beaune, Bourgogne, France. The immersion workshop package includes room and board at the Flathead Lake Biological Station. The workshop is designed for teachers of French, francophiles and college students. To be eligible to attend, participants should have a minimum of  two year's college study of French (or equivalent). Participants earn a minimum of 2 undergraduate or graduate credits in FREN 494, and graduate students may opt to register for one additional credit in FREN 596.
