I'm big on all things Hitchcock. As for Mise-en-scene -- I love Rear WIndow and The Birds; the students generally do as well. Remember -- students today grew up on greusome video games and slasher films with a sprinkle of humor (e.g.: Scream). Most of them are desensitized and spoiled -- they want an experience that is funny, violent and suspenseful. As you all know, this describes Hitchcock quite accurately, although he is a bit more subtle. Where Gerbner says that violence translates well, so does suspense. bill davis ---- For past messages, visit the Screen-L Archives: http://bama.ua.edu/archives/screen-l.html
