Visible Evidence IX CONFERENCE December 17-20, 2001 Brisbane, Australia http://www.gu.edu.au/centre/cmp/ve9.html Presented by the Australian Key Centre for Cultural and Media Policy and the School of Film, Media and Cultural Studies, Griffith University CALL FOR PANELS The 2001 Visible Evidence Conference is the ninth in a series of major interdisciplinary conferences on the representation of (social) reality in documentary film and video. Since the key issue of representing reality explores a wide range of cultural, political, social, historical, ethnographic, medical and pedagogical questions, we welcome proposals from all academic fields. For the first time, VE is to be held in the southern hemisphere, and in view of our location in Australia, we are particularly keen to encourage panels on: · indigenous documentary · post-colonial representations · documentary in the Pacific Rim · other panels dealing with issues pertaining to the region. However, this is an open call and we encourage potential participants to think about documentary in as wide a way as possible. We also welcome suggestions for alternative modes of delivery which maximise the potential for discussion, for example, workshop sessions. We would also like to encourage the involvement of filmmakers, curators and producers in debates on contemporary documentary practice, and to explore the space between the perspectives of scholars and cultural entrepreneurs. At this time you may submit a panel proposal by using the abstract form to the address listed below. You will need to submit the following: 1) a panel proposal (half a page), 2) a brief description of your experience relevant to the proposal. All proposals must be made using the format below (also available on the website) and sent to [log in to unmask] by 30 March 2001. Please note that, due to the time available at the conference, we will only be able to select a limited amount of panels. We have committed ourselves to a single stream of panels. After having selected panels and panel chairs, a Call for Papers will follow (by May 1st, with the names of the panel chairs as panel organisers), as well as more information about registration, accommodation, and other administrative issues. The 2001 Visible Evidence Conference is presented by the Australian Key Centre for Cultural and Media Policy and the School of Film, Media and Cultural Studies at Griffith University, in conjunction with Queensland University of Technology, La Trobe University, and University of Technology Sydney.
