One of the most interesting novels about film spectatorship is J. B. Priestly's "Albert Goes Through" in which a feverish film viewer believes he enters the screen (a la Buster Keaton in "Sherlock Junior"). The novel's from the early 1930s, I think. In a more postmodern vein, I'd recommend Robert Coover's collection of short pieces, "A Night at the Movies." There's a bibliography of Hollywood Novels by Anthony Slide and a good bibliography and discussion in a dissertation by Carolyn See.
