Asian Journal of Communication Call for papers Gender in Asian Cinema Guest Editors: Dr. Tan See Kam and Dr. Gina Marchetti The Asian Journal of Communication (AJC) is planning a special issue devoted to Gender in Asian Cinema. This special issue aims to highlight the ways in which gender issues have impacted all aspects of the cinema in Asia. Papers are invited that deal with any of a constellation of issues that surround this topic, including, but not limited to: · Representations of gender and sexuality · Studies of the intersection of issues of gender with race, ethnicity, class, nationality and other aspects of identity · Colonialism, post-colonialism, and gender in Asian cinema · Gender, Asian cultures, and cinema practices · Comparative studies of gender in Asian cinema · Gender and popular film genres in Asia · Gender differences in Asian cinema industries (e.g., government regulation, censorship, production, distribution, exhibition, and marketing) · Histories of gender in Asian film · Gender, style, and star images · Gender, spectatorship, consumerism, and Asian audiences · The relationship between gender and new technologies · Gender and issues of diaspora, exile, and other forms of displacement Papers should address an audience of communication generalists, but may come from any discipline (e.g., women’s studies, cinema studies, cultural studies, ethnic/regional studies, sociology, mass communications, etc.) or be interdisciplinary in orientation. Papers on understudied aspects of Asian cinema and film industries that have not received much scholarly attention are particularly encouraged. AJC is a refereed international publication devoted to the dissemination of communication research about and within Asia. It is jointly published by the Asian Media and Information Centre (AMIC), Singapore, and the School of Communication at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
