CALL FOR PROPOSALS: RACE, IDENTITY, AND REPRESENTATION. Area Chair: Bernardo P. Gallegos Proposals are being accepted for presentation at the 2001 meeting of the Southwest Popular Culture/American Culture Association held in Albuquerque New Mexico from March 7 through 10. Papers, panels, and alternative format presentations such as performance, film, documentaries, etc. that address 1) race and its construction, 2) the negotiation of identities, and 3) the politics (broadly defined) of representation are invited. Presentations could address these in a variety of historical, geographic, and discursive contexts. Interested ersons should submit a 150-word proposal to the area chair at the following address by January 10, 2001 or ASAP. Any modern language is invited, but papers not in English should be accompanied by a 500-word abstract for distribution to the audience (50 copies). Professor Bernardo P.
