FILM & HISTORY SESSION AT AHA As episodes of CNN's series COLD WAR were broadcast, Film & History provided evaluations from observers and experts. (Some of these responses are still on the Film & History web site: www.filmandhistory.org ; check them out.) The Boston session by Film & History will take place on Saturday night, January 6th, beginning at 7:30pm in the Sheraton Boston Hotel, in the Constitution Ballroom B. Here is the program entry (page 50 of the official program): Title of Session: CNN's COLD WAR SERIES: IDEOLOGY OR HISTORY? Introduction: Peter C. Rollins, Film & History Comments: Richard Pipes, Harvard University Richard Raack, California State University at Hayward Gabriel Schoenfeld, Commentary Magazine Response: John O'Connor, Founder, Film & History Comments: This session will examine CNN's multi-episode "history" of the Cold War which has been airing on the network for several years. In time, the series may find its way into public schools and libraries, supplanting other views of the struggle. Is the COLD WAR a valid history of the conflict or is it an ideological statement? The book CNN's COLD WAR DOCUMENTARY: ISSUES AND CONTROVERS, edited by Arnold Beichman (Hoover Institution Press, 2000) will be available at the session and at Film & History's Booth 109 at the book display. For previous evaluations of the series, check out the Film & History web site: www.filmandhistory.org All are welcomed and registration at the meeting is not required for this evening session. Students, in particular, are welcomed....Please contact me if you have questions. Peter Rollins Peter C.
