My department (the School of Creative Media in the City University of Hong Kong) is presently preparing a proposal for an MFA program in "Media Design & Technology," with an emphasis on digitial media creation (including video, animation, sound design, and multimedia). This is (almost) the first MFA to be offered in Hong Kong, and consequently we have to do more than the usual amount of educating both internal evaluation committees (CityU was primarily a tech school until recently, with little involvement in the arts & humanities) and the general public as to the connotations of this degree. Can anyone recommend useful general readings on the history and/or philosophies of the MFA? And are there any useful publications on the history of MFA's in still photography and/or film/video production? Thanks in advance.
