Sorry to trouble you all with this rather trivial request but I was
asked this question in a seminar the other day and, after a trawl
through the internet and much of the literature, have not been able
to come up with a satisfactory answer:

In Kieslowski's _Three Colours: Red_ there are seven survivors after
the ferry accident. Six of these are characters from the trilogy but
the seventh is not shown on screen and is described as an
"English barman". Who is he? Why does he survive?

Am I just being obtuse?
