>a) Try to get a code-free DVD player

If you have a choice, get a player that allows you to *change* region codes
rather than a code-free player. The reason is that some discs will only
work if the player is set to the same region code and so they wouldn't work
in a code-free player. The thing to watch out for, though, is that many
players will allow you to change region codes a certain number of times
(usually five, sometimes seven) before permanently locking into that region.
