Charles Barr's book EALING STUDIOS (London, Studio Vista, 2nd ed., 1993)
remains - and quite rightly so - the definitive study of Ealing's output,
and argues convincingly that to concentrate on the well-known comedies of
the late-40s is to ignore the vast majority of Ealing's output, much of
which provides a lot of background context for these films.
