The 1982 book Reel Facts has a list of "The Most Expensive Movies Ever Made" (p50) which also includes production figures for the various films. Though this doesn't quite help with films called the most expensive at the actual time of their release and is obviously way out-dated, it's still interesting. For one thing, it mentions an Arabic film and also discusses the Russian War & Peace which supposedly cost over $100 million but wasn't included because it's not "Western-financed" (go figure). Somehow this reminds me of the only surprising thing in the year-end review in Entertainment Weekly, a Bob Dylan quote originally from Newsweek: "The top stars of today, you won't even know their names two years from now. Five years from now, they'll be *obliterated*." ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lang Thompson http://www.tcf.ua.edu/wlt4 PLEASE NOTE NEW URL!!
