The Department of Film and Media at Emory University in Atlanta, GA invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor with a research specialty in American Film and Media Industries.    Appointment begins in August 2024. The successful applicant will join a growing, dynamic undergraduate program in an R1 research university which offers a Film and Media major and minor, a minor in Media Production, and a Concentration in Film and Media Management (a joint program with the Goizueta Business School). 

 

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. and be an internationally established scholar of the rapidly changing American media industry.  The hire will be expected to teach “The Biz,” our media industry history course, and the Film and Media Management Concentration capstone course, as well as classes in their own area of expertise (e.g., television industries, labor relations, content streaming, marketing and distribution, media entrepreneurship, independent production and/or the history of the entertainment industry).  

The hire will also serve as co-director of the Concentration in Film and Media Management.  This will entail curriculum building, event programming and providing effective mentoring of individual students on careers in the industry, including in Atlanta’s, currently ranked as the third largest in the country.  The hire will receive a course release annually for this administrative work.  Emory College of Art and Sciences Faculty Responsibilities are outlined here:  http://college.emory.edu/faculty/documents/faculty/faculty-responsibilities.pdf
