The Department of Media Arts at the University of Arizona seeks to fill a tenure-track assistant professorship, beginning August 2002. As the Department of Media Arts expects to recruit several faculty members in the near future, applicants representing diverse areas of interest in media industries and/or media productions can be considered. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or M.F.A. in a discipline complementary to the Department's integrated curricular design of critical studies, production, and professional studies; and should demonstrate promising development in scholarly research and/or creative activity. Preference will be given to those candidates who teach in more than one of the three curricular areas of the Department. Within the Department of Media Arts, three broad areas are taught through various methodologies. Media Industries includes courses involving law and regulation, management, economics, business, advertising, production finance, distribution, and exhibition. Media Productions includes courses involving computer animation, video and film production, sound design, interactive media, multimedia, and screenwriting. Media Cultures includes courses involving history, criticism, and theory of film, broadcasting, and new media. Media Industries applicants should have expertise in a combination of the following: production studies, distribution, exhibition, audience studies, and management. Media Productions applicants should have expertise in at least one of the following: screenwriting, producing, film production, video production, digital production, post-production. The Department of Media Arts enrolls 600 undergraduate and graduate students in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Master of Arts in Media Arts degree programs. The Department has 11 full-time faculty and a corps of adjunct instructors from related professional communities. The faculty's diverse, integrative approaches to study in the field aim to equip students with broad knowledge and durable skills.
