I'm not sure about the sorts of films that may have inspired these two -
their films have always seemed very 'comic book-ish' in their look to me -
similar to the Wachowskis with The Matrix. I don't have any documentation to
back this up - but it may be a place to look.

I have a student who wants to know of films whose esthetique may have
inspired the makers of 'Delicatessen', 'La Cite des enfants perdus' and the
most recent 'Aliens'. Does anyone have any suggestions?
