As you might imagine, the interpretations of the Civil War and its
"causes" are points of continual discussion in America, its effects
still being felt in one way or another. If you take those competing
voices into account, there are any number of films that give their own
versions of these interpretations, from BIRTH OF A NATION to GONE WITH
THE WIND to THE BEGUILED, AMISTAD, and BELOVED. Ken Burns' TV
documentary series THE CIVIL WAR does attempt to give factual details
and background to a variety of perspectives and elements leading up to
the war and the war itself.
